Piano Removals Across Sussex, Surrey and Hampshire

A piano needs a route plan before anybody tries to lift it. DJS Moves handles piano removals for households, schools, venues and businesses, with the access, protection and transport considered in advance.

Your piano is not ordinary furniture

The polished case is only the part you can see. Inside is a mechanical instrument that can be affected by knocks, twisting and sudden movement. Its weight is also concentrated differently from a wardrobe or sideboard, so the route through the property matters as much as the journey in the van.

Door widths, tight corners, changes in floor level, outside steps and the distance to the vehicle all influence how a piano move should be approached. That is why we ask questions before giving a price.

Buying or selling a piano?

Who we help

Residential and commercial piano removals

The job may be one piano moving between two nearby addresses or part of a much larger relocation. Either way, we plan around the instrument and the buildings at both ends.

Piano moves for organisations

For schools, colleges, churches, hotels, studios, theatres, community spaces, event venues and other commercial premises.

  • Moves between rooms, buildings or sites
  • Collection or delivery around opening hours
  • Stage, loading-area and lift access assessed
  • Coordination with a site or facilities contact

Commercial moves

Planning around the building as well as the piano

Commercial premises introduce their own practical details: loading bays, public opening times, stage access, lifts, security arrangements and other contractors working on site.

Give us the site contact and access information early and we can plan the collection or delivery around the way the building actually operates.

Accurate quotations

What affects the cost of moving a piano?

There is no useful flat price for every piano move. A ground-floor upright with parking by the door is a different job from an upright involving stairs, tight turns or a long carry to the vehicle.

We base the quote on the real job, not an optimistic starting price that changes when the team arrives.

Photos are genuinely useful. Send the piano, the route out, stairs and landings, the front entrance and the parking position at both addresses.
Piano type and sizeTell us whether it is an upright or digital piano, plus the make, model or dimensions if known.
Access at both propertiesSteps, staircases, narrow halls, low ceilings, tight corners, lifts and thresholds can change the plan.
Distance and parkingCollection and delivery postcodes, parking restrictions and the carry between the doorway and vehicle all matter.
The wider moveLet us know whether the piano is travelling alone or as part of a home, office or venue relocation.
From enquiry to moving day

How we arrange a piano removal

1

Send the details

Tell us the piano type, both addresses, preferred date and whether there are steps, stairs or restricted access. Include clear photos where possible.

2

We assess the route

We review the instrument, access and journey before confirming the team, timing and quotation. Unusual access may need further checks.

3

The move is carried out

On the day, the team follows the agreed route and keeps the lift, loading and delivery controlled from one stage to the next.

Access checks

Stairs and tight turns need to be seen beforehand

A landing can look generous until the piano's depth and turning space are taken into account. The same applies to front steps, sloping paths, gravel and doorways that open onto a sharp corner.

A few useful photographs or a short video can reveal those problems before moving day. If the route is particularly difficult, we will discuss what further assessment is needed before accepting the job.

Tell us about the piano and the route

Send the practical details here rather than completing the full house-move form. Photos of stairs, doorways and the route to the vehicle help us assess the job properly.

Common questions

Piano removal FAQs

Can you move a piano as part of a house or business move?
Yes. Ask us to include the piano when quoting for the wider removal. We can also quote for a piano as a standalone collection and delivery.
What information do you need for a quote?
We need the piano type and approximate size, collection and delivery postcodes, the date, parking details and clear information about steps, stairs, lifts, tight corners and the route to the vehicle. Photos or a short video are very helpful.
Can a piano be moved up or down stairs?
Some stair moves are possible, but they must be assessed individually. The width, turns, landings, ceiling height and condition of the route all matter. Send photographs first and we will advise whether more information or a survey is required.
What types of piano can you quote for?
This service is intended for upright and digital pianos. Tell us exactly what you have and include the make, model and dimensions if available. We will assess the instrument and access before confirming the job.
How soon should a piano be tuned after moving?
A move and a change in temperature or humidity can affect tuning. Piano technicians commonly advise allowing the instrument to settle in its new position before tuning, but the right timing depends on the instrument and environment. Ask your tuner for advice.
Are piano removals insured?
DJS Moves provides a fully insured removals service. Tell us about any unusually valuable or specialist instrument when requesting a quote so the relevant cover and booking terms can be checked with you before the move.
Which areas do you cover?
We arrange piano removals across Sussex, Surrey and Hampshire, including local and longer-distance moves. Send both postcodes and we can confirm availability for your route.
