A market town between two harbours
Havant grew up around the crossroads where West, East, North and South Street still meet beside St Faith’s Church, parts of which date from the 13th century. To the south lie Langstone and Chichester Harbours, and the flat Hayling Billy Trail runs from the station along the water, a favourite with walkers and cyclists.
The Spring arts centre, in the old town hall on East Street, brings theatre and exhibitions to the centre, while Staunton Country Park offers open space on the northern edge of Leigh Park.
Homes for every stage
Few towns offer such a mix. Leigh Park, once one of the largest council estates in Europe, has thousands of solid post-war family houses. Bedhampton and Denvilles add quieter residential roads, Langstone has some of the prettiest harbour cottages on the south coast, and the Southleigh development will bring around two thousand new homes between Denvilles and Emsworth.
